Beck demands action from Moe government to protect jobs

Sask NDP Leader Carla Beck is calling on Premier Scott Moe and the Sask Party government to urgently develop a plan to protect jobs in Moose Jaw and across the province, in response to escalating trade tensions with the United States.

At a news conference held on Thursday in Moose Jaw, Beck expressed deep frustration with what she described as a weak and inadequate response from the Moe government.

“When I think of this city, I think of strength—of a strong economy, with industry that punches well above its weight,” Beck said. “But I didn’t see that same strength from Scott Moe and the Sask Party yesterday. What I saw was weak.”

Beck highlighted that Moe was the last provincial leader in Canada to respond publicly to US tariffs, accusing him of merely echoing initiatives already announced elsewhere without a comprehensive local strategy.

“It’s clear the Sask Party has no plan—they’ve sat on their hands for months as the threat of a trade war loomed,” Beck said. “That’s not good enough. I’m here today to demand they call an emergency session and get to work on building a plan, one that guarantees they will protect Moose Jaw jobs.”

Beck also challenged the two Sask Party MLAs representing Moose Jaw to “come out of hiding” and hold a public town hall to openly discuss their plan of action.

“People needed Moe but he was MIA,” Beck said. “The people of Saskatchewan deserve better leadership. They deserve a government focused on the future.”
