Sask NDP Leader Carla Beck is asking newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney to deliver for Saskatchewan and focus on nation building projects that unite the country.
In a statement following Monday’s federal election, Beck congratulated Carney and called on him to take immediate action on key Saskatchewan priorities.
Those include securing a fairer equalization deal, signing a new agreement to protect $10 a day childcare, removing Chinese tariffs on Canadian canola, and significantly spending on infrastructure such as rail lines, pipelines, power lines, and highways.
“You have an opportunity to deliver on the priorities of the people of Saskatchewan within a united Canada,” said Beck.
Beck emphasized that while the House of Commons will look different following the election, all parties, including the Bloc Quebecois, must now focus on building Canada’s future.
Beck pointed specifically to the need for new nation-building projects like a pipeline to the East Coast to support economic growth.
Beck also congratulated every candidate who ran for office and offered special thanks to outgoing NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh for his service to his party and the country.
“National unity has never been more important,” said Beck.
“Every province, including Saskatchewan, must be heard and respected.”
Beck added that all Canadians deserve the opportunity to thrive, raise their families, and feel they belong in “the True North, Strong, and Free.”
