Regina Police Chief Farooq Sheikh has been temporarily removed from active duty while the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) reviews a formal complaint filed by a community member, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Regina Board of Police Commissioners.

The nature of the complaint has not been disclosed, but the Board emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust in the Regina Police Service throughout the investigation.

“In order to ensure the integrity and independence of the investigation, in accordance with The Police Act, 1990, the Board has directed that Chief Sheikh be temporarily removed from active service until the PCC completes its work,” said Board Chairperson Yashu Bither.

Deputy Chief Lorilee Davies has been appointed as Acting Chief of Police in the interim.

The Board stated that no further comment will be made while the PCC’s investigation is ongoing.

Once the review is complete, the Board will be notified of the findings and the public will be updated.

The PCC operates independently to investigate public complaints against police officers and services in Saskatchewan.
