Henry and Sophia were the most popular baby names in Saskatchewan in 2024, according to new data released by eHealth Saskatchewan.
Sophia ended Olivia’s nine-year streak at the top of the list for girls’ names, pushing Olivia into second place. Newcomer Lainey entered the top 20 for the first time, taking twentieth place, while names like Hazel and Ellie made significant climbs — Hazel jumped from twentieth to sixth and Ellie rose from nineteenth to fifth.
Other big movers included Harper, which climbed from seventeenth to eighth, and Isla, which advanced from tenth to fourth. Ivy, however, fell out of favour, dropping from fifth to seventeenth. Sadie and Grace rejoined the rankings after being absent for several years, while Brielle, Nora, Evelyn, and Sophie fell off the list entirely.
On the boys’ side, Henry surged from eighteenth to become the top name, displacing Oliver, which fell to second. Liam and Noah followed in third and fourth spots. Names like Levi, Hudson, Jack, and Theodore maintained strong showings.
Daniel appeared in the top 20 for the first time since 2017, with other returnees including Asher, Alexander, Brooks, and Elijah. Muhammad continued to gain popularity, moving up from nineteenth to thirteenth place. Meanwhile, Leo dropped significantly, falling from fourth to sixteenth, and names like Lincoln, Emmett, Ethan, and Luke didn’t make the list this year.
The rankings are based on a preliminary count of 13,189 live births registered in Saskatchewan as of April 5, 2025. That’s slightly up from 13,080 in 2023. The numbers do not include Saskatchewan mothers who gave birth outside the province.
eHealth Saskatchewan noted that birth registrations from late 2024 are still being processed, meaning final totals may change slightly.
