Police warn high-risk sex offender on the loose in Regina

Christopher Oldcorn

Regina Police Service (RPS) has issued a public safety alert for Jason Paul Thorn, 48, a convicted high-risk sex offender considered unlawfully at large.

RPS warns Thorn poses a significant risk of committing sexual offences, particularly against female children, and urges residents to take precautions without engaging in any forms of vigilantism.

Thorn, released under court-ordered conditions on March 31, had been residing in a supervised residence in Regina’s Heritage neighbourhood as part of his statutory release.

Police confirmed Thorn failed to report as required, prompting an arrest warrant and active search.

Investigators emphasize Thorn’s history includes repeated sexual offences and a high likelihood of reoffending.

Described as 5’9”, 170 pounds, with a medium build, brown eyes, and greying black hair.

Police stress the public should not approach Thorn.

Instead, anyone seeing him should immediately call 911 or RPS at (306) 777-6500.

“Our priority is locating Thorn swiftly and safely,” said RPS.

RPS is working in collaboration with other agencies to arrest Thorn quickly.

Thorn’s disappearance marks a breach of strict release terms mandating supervision.

RPS has not disclosed how he evaded monitoring but confirms an investigation is underway.

This alert follows Saskatchewan’s protocol for high-risk offenders, allowing public notifications when safety threats arise.

Police reiterate the warning aims to protect communities, not incite fear or retaliation.

Updates will be provided as the search continues.
