Saskatchewan RCMP has confirmed that two men and two women were found dead in a home on the Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation, about 80 kilometres east of Regina.
The bodies were discovered Tuesday afternoon by officers from the File Hills First Nations Police Service, who were called to the residence at around 11:15 am CST.
On Wednesday, the RCMP said they are treating the incident as a quadruple homicide but have not released the names of the victims, as coroners are still working to identify the deceased.
“Though formal identification is pending, our family liaison team is providing investigational updates to loved ones we believe may be impacted by these homicides,” said the RCMP.
“We are also actively referring them to victim services for support.”
Police responded to a separate incident the same day on the nearby Zagime Anishinabek First Nation, where a man reportedly pointed a firearm at people.
The suspect Keagan Panipekeesick, 29, was arrested hours later at a Regina home on Mathieu Crescent.
Two others were also taken into custody.
RCMP said they cannot confirm any link between the two cases at this time.
Officers remain on the scene, and an increased police presence is reported on both Carry the Kettle and Zagime Anishinabek.
The coroner’s investigation continues and more details are expected later this week.
