Saskatchewan has reached a population milestone, surpassing 1,246,000 residents for the first time in its history, according to Statistics Canada’s latest quarterly estimates.

As of October 1, the province’s population stood at 1,246,691, a quarterly increase of 6,826 people and a year-over-year surge of 26,989.

This growth rate of 0.55% in the past quarter ranks as the second highest among provinces, exceeding the national average.

Premier Scott Moe welcomed the news, crediting the province’s economic strength for attracting new residents.

"Our government is pleased with the province's continued growth thanks to our strong economy," said Moe.

"We are committed to meeting the increased demand of a growing population. Over the next four years our government is making a number of ambitious commitments to educational spaces and health care for residents. Ensuring Saskatchewan people have timely access to the right care when they need it as well as creating the most supportive environment for every student in our province to achieve at their greatest potential will be a priority for our government."

The steady rise in Saskatchewan’s population highlights its growing appeal as a destination for Canadians and newcomers seeking economic opportunities and quality of life.
