OSOYOOS: Pierre Poilievre has claimed that Mark Carney will spend even more than his predecessor.
The Conservative leader's comments came after his Liberal opponent vowed to increase funding for CBC to the tune of $150 million.
"Mark Carney is again out saying he's gonna spend $150 million more," he said during a press conference in Osoyoos, BC on Saturday, referring to it as "another un-costed promise with no way of paying for it."
Poilievre went on to suggest that the new Liberal leader is "just like Justin Trudeau" and pointed out that he "hasn't identified a single Liberal expenditure that he would reverse."
"You are going to get the same morbidly obese Liberal government, but this time on steroids with Mark Carney's rampant spending," he continued. "That means more inflation, higher interest rates, and shrinking paycheques for our people."
"After this lost Liberal decade we cannot afford a fourth Liberal term in power," Poilievre concluded. "We need a new Conservative government that will put Canadian taxpayers, Canadian consumers, Canadian workers, and Canadian entrepreneurs first for a change."
Carney said his promise to increase CBC's funding by $150 million was essential to "protect Canada’s national identity … in this time of crisis," vowing to ensure the broadcaster is a "reliable Canadian public forum in a sea of misinformation."
He added that the new "governance plan" for CBC/Radio-Canada will "improve accountability," "promote and support Canadian culture, including Québec's unique culture, which is at the heart of our national identity," "strengthen local news," increase information "during emergencies," and "fully equip them to combat disinformation."
