A worker in Northern BC sustained minor injuries after fending off a cougar attack by punching the animal in the face.The province’s Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) said in a Facebook post that the attack happened around 11 a.m. Saturday near the Lake Kathlyn area in Smithers, BC — 1,000 kilometres northwest of Vancouver — when a cougar approached the man and swiped at his upper torso.The man, who was interviewed by the BCCOS, told them he “punched the cougar in the face,” and it disengaged..Bogus Banff cougar attack turns out to be toothless.The man’s injuries were not life-threatening and did not require hospital treatment.Conservation officers responded to the area and set a live trap but reported that no cougar was seen.The BCCOS said they are “continuing to monitor cougar activity in the area and will respond as necessary to ensure public safety.”.Cougar attack in Banff National Park leaves one person hospitalized .According to WildSafeBC, "cougars account for approximately 2,500 calls to the Conservation Officer Service reporting line every year, however many reported cougar sightings turn out to be animals other than cougars."WildSafeBC said attacks are very rare, but if you encounter a cougar, keep calm and never run.
