A 45-year-old man is facing charges over an incident in Whistler, BC, involving a child that shocked onlookers on Canada Day last year.Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP say officers were approached by bystanders who reported seeing a man holding a child over a balcony, a woman screaming, and property damage inside a hotel room on the Whistler Village Stroll.Officers promptly arrived and apprehended a man and woman under the Mental Health Act.The child involved received immediate medical attention.Following an extensive investigation, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges of Abandoning a Child and Failing to Provide the Necessaries of Life against Jason Frost, 45, a non-resident of Whistler, on June 23, 2025..WATCH: Unhinged man throws teen's bike off bridge during altercation in Whistler.The incident occurred during the popular tourist town’s Canada Day celebrations and drew significant attention.“We recognize the impact the incident had on individuals who witnessed this unfold in our community that day,” said Constable Graebling, Media Relations Officer for Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP, in a release.“We are deeply grateful to the witnesses who alerted us, enabling our officers to respond quickly and professionally to resolve this high-risk situation. Their actions were critical to ensuring the child’s safety.”The case is now before the courts, and no further details will be provided by Sea to Sky RCMP at this time.Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP would like to remind the community that protecting children and youth is a shared responsibility. Anyone who has a reason to believe a child has been or is likely to be abused or neglected and that the parent is unwilling or unable to protect the youth should report it immediately.
