The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has made an arrest following another vicious, random attack that left a meal-delivery driver with life-threatening injuries over the weekend..The 22-year-old newcomer to Canada was on the clock for the meal-delivery service company, and, while locking his bike to a street pole in Chinatown around 6 p.m. Sunday night a man unknown to him approached from behind and began stabbing him repeatedly..Police say the victim suffered “a number of stab wounds,” including to his chest and throat during the attack, which occurred near Gore Ave. And East Pender St..“Despite grave injuries, he was able to call 911 for help, and several witnesses provided first aid until police arrived. His injuries were life-threatening, but we now expect him to pull through,” VPD’s Sgt. Steve Addison said Monday..Police thank and credit bystanders for both coming to the victim’s aid as well as providing key information leading to the suspect’s arrest in Crab Park shortly after the stabbing..“Public safety is a shared responsibility, and we always encourage people to call police immediately if they see a crime in progress or a person in danger,” said Addison..“We commend the bystanders who comforted the injured victim after the attack, and others who provided eyewitness information that led to the quick arrest of a violent offender.”.VPD has asked the courts to remand the 43-year-old, unnamed suspect “due to the violent nature of the offence.”.The department highlighted in May violent crime in Vancouver increased more than 7% in 2021, compared to pre-pandemic levels.
