TUMBLER RIDGE – Paige Hoekstra, one of the students injured during the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooting, is out of surgery after being shot in the chest, and is in a stable condition as of Thursday. "As a family, we wanted to provide an update for everybody on her condition," wrote Hoekstra's older sister, Leann Fletcher, in a Facebook post on Thursday. "Paige had suffered one gunshot wound to the chest and has since undergone surgery to repair/assess damage, but she is officially out of danger and in recovery. Her whole family is here to support her through her recovery to get back to the Paige we all know and love." Hoekstra was one of the 25 individuals injured when Jesse Strang (legal name Van Rootselaar), an 18-years-old biological male who had begun transitioning to female, allegedly entered the secondary school and killed six students. "I want to tell everyone that I am okay and I am recovering," reads a message from Hoekstra in Fletcher's post. .According to Fletcher, she and Hoekstra's mother have been with her at the hospital since the recovery started."We are deeply comforted by the outstanding support displayed by our friends, family, and community and we would like to thank everybody for all of the support, prayers and well wishes," Fletcher wrote in the post.Hoekstra was airlifted from Tumbler Ridge to Vancouver to receive treatment after being shot, and a GoFundMe has been set up to help the family cover the costs of missing work and travelling to be with her, as well as for the further treatment that she is expected to need.On Thursday, the RCMP released a list of individuals who were killed by Strang prior to them taking their own life. Prior to driving to the school and murdering the six students, Strang killed their brother and sister at their home."We would also like to extend our own support and prayers to the families of the all the other victims, we are so fortune that Paige will be okay and we are here with you in your grief with the rest of the community," Fletcher wrote.
