Incoming US president Donald Trump is set to make good on plans to make his country an AI superpower with the announcement of billions in infrastructure spending.

On Tuesday CBS News reported that a private sector consortium led by Oracle, SoftBank and OpenAI will announce a joint venture dubbed ‘StarGate’ to be outlined by Trump later this afternoon.

Trump press secretary Karoline Leavitt teased on morning talk shows a “massive” infrastructure announcement that will “prove that the world knows that America is back.”

In 2016, Trump promised a USD$1 trillion infrastructure bill that did not come to fruition in his first term. Instead his Democratic successor, Joe Biden, signed his own $1 trillion infrastructure bill in 2021 — the so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ — to fund thousands of projects to rebuild roads and bridges and fund new climate initiatives.

Trump will outline his plan at 2 pm MST.
