A nine-year-old girl and a man in his 50s are dead following an early morning house fire in northeast Calgary.Emergency crews were called to the 100 block of Taralake Way N.E. around 1:15 a.m., following a 911 call reporting a large fire at a residence.When crews arrived, flames were visible from both floors of the two-storey house, and the blaze was threatening neighbouring homes.Firefighters rescued a teenager and an adult who had escaped from the second floor onto the roof, Calgary Fire Department spokesperson Carol Henke said, reported Postmedia.Both were taken to hospital in serious condition..Once inside, firefighters discovered a man in his 50s who was pronounced dead at the scene.A nine-year-old girl was also found unconscious in the house and rushed to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in critical condition, where she later died, officials said.Two additional adults, who were living in a basement suite in the residence, escaped the fire. They were assessed by emergency crews at the scene but were not transported to hospital.Zubair Hanif, the neighbour who called 911, told Global News he tried to get everyone out.“There was huge smoke, black smoke inside I heard the noise of a lady upstairs, she was in her bedroom with her husband. One of the kids was in the other room — she was screaming and we broke the door to get them out of the house," Hanif said.Calgary police and fire crews remain on the scene to investigate the cause of the blaze.It is believed to be non-criminal in nature.
