Calgary-based builder, Truman, and Marriott International, Inc. announced on Wednesday plans for three hotels in Calgary, the W Calgary, JW Marriott Calgary and an Autograph Collection Hotel which will be located in the Culture and Entertainment District near Stampede Park. The projects come with a $1.47 billion price tag."We are incredibly excited to announce our newest hotel development," said Tony Trutina, COO of Truman. "Truman and Louson, as Calgary-based and family-owned companies, have a deep commitment to this city, and we believe this project will be a significant catalyst for the local economy.” “Beyond creating numerous construction jobs, these hotels are expected to generate substantial long-term employment opportunities, boost tourism, and support local businesses through increased visitor spending. We are immensely proud to invest further in Calgary's future and contribute to its vibrant growth." W Calgary is planned as a 69-storey tower, featuring 157 guest rooms, 27 suites, and 239 branded residences. Amenities will include a 7,500-sq.-ft spa, specialty restaurant, 16,259 sq. ft. of meeting space, the signature Living Room, an expansive FIT studio, and a rooftop bar. Residents will have exclusive access to the facilities and a dedicated private entrance. .The JW Marriott Calgary will be a 62-storey building with 248 guestrooms and 120 branded residences, highlighting Marriotts’s approach to well-being and luxury hospitality, said Paul Cahill, COO, Canada, Marriott International. There will be 32,500-sq.-ft. of meeting space, indoor and outdoor pools, a signature JW Market, JW Garden, a retail area, and more. These add to Truman’s business activity on Stampede Park, having recently announced a 320-room hotel which will operate under Autograph Collection Hotels, in partnership with Calgary Stampede. The yet to be officially named hotel will also feature 15,000-sq.-ft. of meeting and event space as well as a 14,000-sq.-ft. area with restaurants, a lobby bar, coffee shop, and a rooftop lounge, plus a south-facing leisure terrace with a pool, jacuzzi and an outdoor bar, and an indoor swimming pool and fitness club. The hotels are planned to open between in 2028 and 2030. "As Marriott continues to expand our hospitality options in Canada to meet the diverse needs of guests, owners and developers, W Calgary, JW Marriott Calgary, and the Autograph Collection Hotel are poised to usher in an unparalleled level of hospitality to this high-energy city," said Cahill. "We are thrilled to closely collaborate with Truman and Louson, whose combined passion and love for Calgary will be a perfect complement to the elevated service that guests have come to expect from the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio." .The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation, (CMLC) a wholly owned subsidiary of the City of Calgary, has worked on the redevelopment of the lands near Stampede Park, says CMLC President and CEO, Kate Thompson. "Our shared vision for The Culture and Entertainment District as a vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhood is coming to life, with more than $2 billion in city-building infrastructure and cultural destinations completed or underway," said Thompson. "As we knew it would, our city's public investment in the Calgary Exhibition is now attracting significant private interest and investment, bringing forward the hotels, residences and commercial spaces envisioned in the master plan that will, critically, support the needs of meetings, conventions and major events taking place in the district." Calgary is attracting world-wide attention as a meeting and convention hub, said Joel Cowley, CEO of the Calgary Stampede. "We are thrilled to work with Marriott on the Autograph Collection Hotel on Stampede Park," said Cowley. "With the growing demand for meetings and conventions at the expanded BMO Centre and across Calgary, these three hotel offerings dramatically elevate our competitive advantage as a host city and complement the Calgary Stampede's world-known exceptional Western hospitality." .The hotels represent a value of $1.47 billion in private investment from Truman and Louson, and are expected to support more than 9,100 jobs during construction and more than 2,000 ongoing positions across operations and tourism sectors. Annually, Trutina expects the development will contribute more than $120 million in GDP from hotel operations and an additional $111 million from visitor spending, generating nearly $76 million in government revenues, according to a preliminary economic assessment.
