In an open letter, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh announced his party’s intention to introduce a non-confidence motion against the Trudeau government, citing repeated failures by the Trudeau Liberals to deliver on key promises.

“The Trudeau Liberals said a lot of the right things. Then they let people down again and again,” wrote Singh.

Singh accused Justin Trudeau of prioritizing the powerful over everyday Canadians and highlighted critical issues such as unaffordable housing, rising costs of living, and inadequate health care as evidence of Trudeau’s inability to meet the needs of Canadians.

“Justin Trudeau failed in the biggest job a Prime Minister has: to work for people, not the powerful. To focus on Canadians, not themselves,” wrote Singh.

Singh called for Trudeau’s resignation and pledged to give Canadians the opportunity to choose a government that works for them.

“The Liberals don’t deserve another chance,” wrote Singh.

“That’s why the NDP will vote to bring this government down, and give Canadians a chance to vote for a government who will work for them. No matter who is leading the Liberal Party, this government’s time is up. We will put forward a clear motion of non-confidence in the next sitting of the House of Commons.”

Singh emphasized his commitment to fighting for programs that benefit Canadians, including dental care, free birth control, and diabetes medication.

He vows to resist efforts by Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre to roll back these gains, warning that a Conservative government would prioritize big business and CEOs while making cuts to essential services like healthcare, childcare, housing, and pensions.

“The next fight is a big one,” wrote Singh.

“Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives will give CEOs and big business anything they want and make callous cuts to pay for it. They will cut healthcare, child care, housing, and people’s pensions.”

In a tweet, Poilievre ridiculed Singh's statement.

"Ha! Now that Parliament is closed and there is no chance to introduce any motion for months — until after you get your pension," he said.

"You did the same stunt in September, claiming you’d no longer prop Trudeau up. Then you went back on your word and voted 8 times AGAINST AN ELECTION & for your boss Trudeau. Just 11 days ago you voted against a non-confidence motion filled with your own words."

"Had you voted the other way, we’d be almost half-way through the election now. Only common sense Conservatives can and will replace this costly NDP-Liberal clown show."

Singh criticized Poilievre’s approach describing it as callous and harmful to the well-being of Canadians.

Looking ahead, Singh called for unity and action to build a better Canada.

“Canadians can come together and build a country where we take better care of each other,” wrote Singh.

“A country where we create good jobs. Stand up to the threats of Trump’s tariffs. And where everyone has a chance to succeed. I will be working hard to build a movement that can win in the next election.”

Singh pledges to lead a movement focused on these goals, urging Canadians to join him in the fight for a government that puts people first.

With this non-confidence motion, the NDP seeks to chart a new course for Canada, offering voters an alternative to the Trudeau Liberals and Poilievre’s Conservatives .
