House Leader Karina Gould has launched her bid to succeed Justin Trudeau as Liberal leader, urging Canadians to reject claims that the country is broken.
Gould made the announcement on Saturday in a social media video, walking through a snowy neighbourhood and highlighting the value of neighbours helping each other.
“There are people out there tearing down Canada, saying the country is broken,” said Gould.
“We are a strong, hardworking, and caring people who do not back down from fighting for what is right.”
Gould says she represents a “new generation” of leadership and promises to unite Canadians from coast to coast.
Her entry adds another name to a growing field of former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney, former finance minister Chrystia Freeland, and MPs Chandra Arya, Jaime Battiste, and Frank Baylis.
Trudeau announced earlier this month that he would step down, triggering a leadership race which ends on March 9.
