SNELL: Watch Guilbeault release Liberal plan for economic suicide and Western alienation

Former federal environment minister and MP Steven Guilbeault has released an Earth Day video that reveals the Liberals’ ongoing mission to commit economic suicide and drive Alberta from Confederation.

He and Liberal Leader Mark Carney will do anything, it seems, to promote and implement net-zero policies in the name of fighting climate change. If given another term, the damage to Canada’s natural resource sector — oil, gas, and mining — could be significant. Canada’s abysmal economic performance that has driven millions into poverty under Justin Trudeau will worsen.

It’s worth noting that Canada produces around 1.4% to 1.5% of global emissions — advancing damaging environmental policies is therefore more of a religious exercise within the cult of net-zero. Guilbeault and Carney are both high priests that will force unholy communion elements down the throats of docile Canadians.

Like foie gras ducks, only fatter and ready for monetary slaughter.

Their goal is negative economic performance to satisfy the principle of degrowth, which advocates for deliberately reducing economic activity and resource consumption in high-income countries to achieve environmental sustainability and "social equity," challenging the traditional focus on GDP growth.

Trudeau and Carney were very successful in that regard over the last decade. Carney will continue the work if elected.

Guilbeault’s script, which might seem acceptable to urban armchair warriors and CBC devotees, is actually a political bullet aimed at Alberta and Canada’s natural resource sector.

“You might have seen that over the weekend, the Liberal Party of Canada unveil its political platform for the election,” he said. “Let me talk to you about a few elements that you’ll find in it, specifically when it comes to the environment.“

"We want big polluters (Alberta-based resource companies) to do more in two ways. First, we want them to pay more (industrial carbon taxes) so that they can help us consumers do things like get $5,000 off an electric vehicle, invest in heat pumps, and eco-efficient home energy retrofits.”

The federal government has already spent an estimated $2.5 billion on electric vehicle incentives through the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program from its launch in May 2019 until its pause in January 2025. It didn’t reduce global emissions — and was a disgusting waste of taxpayer money.

Guilbeault continued, “We also want them to do more when it comes to fighting their own pollution, like almost eliminating methane pollution (from Alberta companies,) which is a very powerful greenhouse gas.“

"We’ve also made some commitments to protect our beautiful nature, ten new national parks (to reduce mining,) ten new marine conservation areas (to reduce offshore oil and gas exploration and development), and also 15 new urban parks to bring nature closer to people. A country with ambition is a country that thinks big."

Guilbeault’s video, although well intentioned and moralistic, is a reminder that another Liberal government will maintain its attack on Alberta industry.

In the end, Liberals will do nothing about the boatloads of dirty foreign oil being consumed in Quebec and Eastern Canada. They won't mention Ontario's belching emissions.

Guilbeault’s video reinforces Liberal attachment to failed-state policy and a willingness to drive Alberta from Confederation.
