During an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, Justin Trudeau offered his take on what it means to be Canadian.

In an inadvertent paraphrasing of Kanye West's "everything I'm not made me everything I am," the prime minister defined the people of his nation as "not American."

When pressed on how he will handle President Donald Trump's numerous threats, Trudeau made it clear Canada would never be the 51st state.

"Canadians are incredibly proud of being Canadian," he told Tapper. "One of the ways we define ourselves most easily is, 'We're not American'."

Trudeau's comments drew criticism on social media. One X user said, "Watching Justin Trudeau on CNN is like being in a Hell of Hell."

Another said, "When you make not being American your national identity, you have no national identity — and you should stop pretending otherwise."
