Two pilots aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which tragically collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter near Reagan National Airport, have been identified as Captain Jonathan Campos, 34, and First Officer Samuel Lilley, 29.

Both were experienced professionals employed by PSA Airlines, a regional subsidiary of American Airlines.

Campos had six years of experience with the carrier, while Lilley had been with PSA Airlines for two years.

Investigators said the collision occurred in the busy airspace near Washington, D.C., although no official determination of cause or responsibility has been made.

Officials confirm they are reviewing air traffic control records, flight data, and other evidence to learn more about the circumstances leading up to the crash.

Lilley’s father, himself a former Black Hawk helicopter pilot, expressed deep sadness upon learning of his son’s involvement in the crash.
