Five people shot at Swedish school

Five people were shot at a school in the central Swedish city of Örebro on Tuesday, according to local authorities. 

Police said they have launched a major investigation, although they have not specified who has been charged.

“The charges are currently attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offence,” said local police.

The shooting occurred at approximately 12:33 p.m. local time (6:33 a.m. ET). 

A police spokesperson said that the extent of the victims injuries remains unclear, and medical personnel along with rescue services are currently on site.

“We have ongoing efforts to secure the area and provide medical assistance,” a spokesperson for local rescue services told Reuters.

The school is located in the district of Västhaga. 

Nearby schools have offered temporary accommodation to students for their safety, and additional security measures have been put in place as the investigation continues.

Further details regarding the possible motive or suspects have not been released. 

Police are expected to provide updates as the situation develops.
