He’s with his doctors. Apparently, he’s doing well. I plan on talking to him shortly, I hope, when I get back to the telephone,” the 81-year-old president said near his Rehoboth Beach, Del., vacation home. “Look, there’s no place in America for this kind of violence. It’s sick. It’s sick. It’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country. We cannot allow for this to be happening. We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this.” “I’m going back to my phone to speak with the federal agencies that are being put together, again, to give me an updated briefing as anything happened, if they learned more in the last couple hours. So thank you very much, and I hope I get to speak to him tonight, and I’ll get back to you if I do.” Former President Barack Obama said in a statement on X, “Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics." Another former president, George W. Bush, released this statement on X, “Laura and I are grateful that President Trump is safe following the cowardly attack on his life. And we commend the men and women of the Secret Service for their speedy response.” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, also on X, said,” I’m sickened by the shooting at (sic) former President Donald Trump. It cannot be overstated political violence is never acceptable. My thoughts are with former President Trump, those at the event and all Americans.” On his Truth Social account, Trump said “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement on the shooting that took place in Butler Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized that what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!" Trump was in the rally in Butler as stop before attending the Republican National Convention, which starts on Monday.
