A Canadian father is in an upstate New York jail after police searching for his missing nine-year-old daughter found her dead and raised doubts about his story.Luciano Frattolin, 45, of Oakville, ON, was arrested Sunday night in Essex County, NY, a day after he told officers his daughter Melina Galanis Frattolin had been kidnapped near Lake George. The report triggered an Amber Alert and dozens of officers searched campgrounds and hiking trails over the weekend.State police say Frattolin’s account quickly unravelled. Early Sunday, investigators found Melina’s body in Ticonderoga, about 50 kilometres northeast of where she was last seen. .Detectives say no evidence points to an abduction and that inconsistencies emerged “within hours” of the first interview.Frattolin was booked on suspicion of causing Melina’s death. No charges had been filed by Monday morning, and an autopsy was underway to determine how the Grade 4 student died.Police say there is no broader threat to tourists or residents in the lakeside region. Further information is expected at a news conference later today.
