
A devastating fire broke out at the Kartalkaya resort early Tuesday, claiming the lives of 66 people.
Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the fire started overnight in the resort’s restaurant, rapidly spreading to the upper floors.
Survivors recounted moments of panic, with two individuals jumping from their window in an attempt to escape.
A total of 32 guests were injured and hospitalized, while others resorted to climbing down from windows using bedsheets.
At the time of the fire, the resort had registered 234 visitors.
Turkish media captured images of the raging fire, with the resort’s roof in flames.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and will be investigated.
