Re: Supreme Court raises stakes in West. The supremos in their lofty towers are not comfortable revealing where or how the bust of Richard Wagner mysteriously appeared — nor who chose to place it in the lobby of the Supreme Court of Canada. There had to be a personally endorsed decision to permit a sculpture of Mr. Wagner to sit in the court’s lobby. Vanity appears to me to be the root of this odious situation: memorializing Richard Wagner in an effort to exemplify his “look-at-me” persona. It is preposterous that a bronze bust could miraculously appear one day, and Mr. Wagner wouldn’t be inquisitive — or even curious — about where it came from.If no one is willing to reveal who paid for the bust, then it should not be flaunted, but returned to the anonymous donor instead.Ronald YaschukQuispamsis, NB
