Hockey Manitoba has called on Hockey Canada’s leadership and board of directors to step aside.
Hockey Manitoba held an emergency meeting Wednesday night and decided to ask for the resignations of Hockey Canada’s leadership and board.
Until Wednesday’s meeting, Hockey Manitoba was supportive of Hockey Canada’s leadership team.
Hockey Manitoba becomes the first provincial hockey association to demand the entire leadership and board to resign.
“Hockey Manitoba’s board of directors support the call by Members of Parliament for a change in Hockey Canada’s leadership at the senior staff level and board,” said the Hockey Manitoba statement Thursday.
Hockey Manitoba wants Hockey Canada’s action plan to consult with experts and organizations in education, awareness and prevention of sexual violence, abuse, bullying, and discrimination.
Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Quebec are not collecting the Hockey Canada participant fees and many sponsors have pulled or cancelled their sponsorships, including Bank of Nova Scotia, Canadian Tire, Chevrolet, Telus, and Tim Hortons.
