Manitoba government has announced changes to its cabinet, reaffirming its commitment to serving Manitobans, Premier Wab Kinew said.
Tracy Schmidt MLA (Rossmere) and Mike Moyes MLA (Riel) have been appointed to key ministerial roles as part of this cabinet renewal.
Schmidt has been named the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning. Schmidt had been serving in an acting capacity for the portfolio following the passing of former minister Nello Altomare, who stepped down due to health reasons in October and died last week.
“I am honoured to take up the torch of minister of education and early childhood learning and continue on the incredible work of my late colleague and friend Nello Altomare,” said Schmidt.
“In this role I will keep working to give every child in Manitoba a path to success – an inspiring education, a fulfilling career and a good life.”
Joining the cabinet for the first time is Moyes, who has been appointed as the Minister of Environment and Climate Change. Moyes expressed his commitment to addressing climate challenges and protecting the province’s natural resources.
"I am honoured to be asked to serve Manitobans in this role,” said Moyes.
“Together, we will work to face the climate challenges ahead and to create safe, clean and healthy environments for Manitobans. I look forward to helping preserve and protect lands and waters in our province for generations to come.”
Premier Kinew noted that both Schmidt and Moyes have been sworn into their new roles during a private ceremony, underscoring the government’s focus on advancing its mandate and addressing the province’s key priorities.
