
Winnipeg police arrested and charged a 49-year-old man following a violent altercation over rent payments that escalated into a machete attack.
The incident occurred on the morning of January 21, in the first 100 block of Syracuse Cres. Police responded to a call about an assault with a weapon at approximately 8:28 am.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS), the conflict began as a verbal argument between two male occupants of a residence, escalating when Vijay Singh, 49, allegedly armed himself with a machete and attacked the 23-year-old victim.
The victim, who was preparing to leave the residence at the time, sustained minor injuries to his upper body but managed to flee the scene.
WPS officers arrived on-site and apprehended the suspect without incident. Singh has been charged with Assault with a Weapon and was released on an Undertaking as required by the Criminal Code.
The victim’s injuries were treated, and he did not require hospitalization.
WPS have not disclosed further details about the dispute or the relationship between the two individuals.
