Less than 90 minutes after Winnipeg mayoral candidate Rick Shone laid out his plans to reduce bike theft Wednesday, his bike was stolen..Shone announced his cycling infrastructure plan that morning before heading over to The Wilderness Supply store, which he owns..Shone went to talk with an employee and when he came back out to his truck, the unlocked bike was gone after only a few minutes inside..The stolen bike was the same bike Shone used at his 10:30 am news conference when he promised to put in 500 new bike racks at a cost of $250,000 and change the city’s bike registration system with a national theft deterrent program..Shone told the media that “I feel so stupid. I was inside for two minutes. I got distracted by a question.”.Another mayoral candidate, Shaun Money, also pledged a similar bike-registration system to replace the current system, install more bike lockers in public areas, and make bike lockers mandatory in new developments..This theft is not the only one in this mayoral campaign; Rana Bokhari lost the catalytic converter from her campaign’s RV because of theft.
