The Alberta government has extended the timeline for an independent investigation into procurement and contracting practices involving Alberta Health Services (AHS), citing the volume of documents and interviews required.Deputy Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration Christopher McPherson announced Friday that the interim report originally due May 30 will now be delivered by September 24. The final report, initially scheduled for June 30, is now expected by October 15, 2025.The investigation, launched in March, is led by Raymond E. Wyant, former Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Manitoba. He was appointed to examine how the Government of Alberta and AHS procure pharmaceuticals and contract services through chartered surgical facilities.“When the investigation was being initiated, I was instructed by Premier Danielle Smith to ensure that Judge Wyant had the time and resources necessary to bring his expertise to bear fully on the matters under consideration,” McPherson said in a statement. To date, thousands of documents have been provided to Judge Wyant, and numerous individuals have been identified for interviews. The decision to extend the timeline was made in consultation with both Judge Wyant and the Deputy Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction.McPherson confirmed that the investigation’s scope, as outlined in the original Ministerial Order and Terms of Reference, remains unchanged. Once complete, the final report and recommendations will be made publicly available.
