A 36-year-old man was airlifted to hospital in Edmonton after being shot by an Alberta RCMP officer during a confrontation on the Ermineskin First Nation near Maskwacis onTuesday.According to police, officers responded to a call at a residence around 2:28 p.m. and encountered a man believed to be armed with a firearm. Police say the man confronted the officers, prompting at least one officer to discharge their service weapon.Officers immediately began providing first aid. Emergency Medical Services and STARS air ambulance transported the man to Edmonton for treatment. No officers were injured.The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the police response. In addition, the RCMP has launched its own internal review to assess training, policy compliance, and the officer’s duty status.
