Alberta’s government will release Budget 2025 on Thursday, Feb. 27, at the start of the new spring legislative session, as the province grapples with rapid population growth and economic pressures.

“Alberta is facing headwinds from every direction right now: cross-border trade issues, volatile oil prices and pressure on our public services as more people move here to make Alberta their home,” said Nate Horner, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Finance.

“I am working with my colleagues to build a budget that builds Alberta and meets the challenge head-on.”

The budget follows a year of unprecedented population growth that has strained public services, including health care and education. The government says Budget 2025 will address these challenges while planning for the province’s future.

With ongoing global geopolitical uncertainty and fluctuating energy markets, Horner emphasized the need for “prudent choices” to ensure fiscal stability.

The government must also balance the costs of upcoming contract negotiations with thousands of public sector workers while maintaining its commitments to school construction, fair taxation, and high-quality public services.

Budget development will continue throughout February, with the government pledging to focus on managing resources wisely while supporting Alberta’s growing communities.
