Morgan State University is preparing to build a wall surrounding its Baltimore campus following a shooting that left four men and one woman wounded. .The shooting happened on October 3, during the school’s homecoming week coronation ceremony for Mister and Miss Morgan State. .Four of those injured in the shooting were students, all between the ages of 18 and 22. All five have been released from hospital. .The school will pay $22 million to upgrade its security, University President David Wilson said Tuesday at a town hall meeting. The costs include an 8,000-ft. wall encircling 90% of the campus designed to “eliminate unfettered access.”.“We’re doing this, let me be clear, not to keep out our neighbours and our community writ large; we are doing it to keep out the bad actors,” Wilson said, as per Associated Press. .The security overhaul, which was allegedly planned for the future but were escalated due to the recent events, also means more metal detectors, police patrols and security guard booths on campus. .School officials also said the upgrades would help student anxiety on campus, as many expressed fears following the shooting. .The shooters are reportedly still on the loose, with Baltimore police offering surveillance footage of four suspects on campus, who ran away after the gunshots sounded. .Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said police suspect the shooting occurred due to “a dispute between two smaller groups and one individual was a target of two individuals who had weapons.”
