A Calgary Flames legend has passed away..On Tuesday, Calgary Flames staff announced Jim 'Bearcat' Murray, the team's head athletic trainer from 1980 through 1996, died.."The entire Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation family extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jim 'Bearcat' Murray, who passed away on June 14 at the age of 89," the Flames released in a statement..Murray was a lifelong Albertan,and was born in Vulcan in 1933 and moved to Okotoks in 1937. Murray and his family quickly established themselves as devoted community members.."The town has honoured the family in many ways over the years, including naming the Murray Arena after them," the Flames stated..He joined the Flames organization in 1980 as the head athletic trainer, holding that position until he retired in 1996..Murray won a Stanley Cup in 1989 as a member of the Flames and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the athletic trainer category in 2009.."After his retirement, Murray served as a community ambassador in Calgary. Beloved by all that met him, Murray's positivity and zest for life inspired so many," the Flames organization said.
