If convicted rapist and killer Paul Bernardo had been granted parole, he intended to move to Kelowna, BC, according to information released in his hearing..At Bernardo’s parole hearing on Tuesday, it was mentioned Kelowna as an ideal destination if he were to be released from prison, due to what would likely be less media interest and public outcry..An “advocate” for Bernardo had also been in touch with Bridges to New Life, a Kelowna-based organization that works to reintegrate parolees into society..Bernardo also mentioned anti-androgen medication being used as a way to lessen his risk of sexual violence, suggesting it reduces his security classification score to below 15, making him a minimum-security offender..The parole board denied his request, less than three years after his first request. The hearing officers took roughly an hour before determining they weren’t convinced Bernardo was not at risk of re-offending..The board also heard from the parents of two teens he tortured and killed in the early 1990s who argued against him ever being set free, calling him a “sadistic psychopath.”.Bernardo’s crimes, some of which he videotaped, spanned throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He’s serving a life sentence for kidnapping, torturing and killing Kristen French, 15, and Leslie Mahaffy, 14, in the early 1990s near St. Catharines, Ont..Bernardo was also convicted of manslaughter in the December 1990 death of Tammy Homolka, his wife Karla Homolka’s younger sister. Tammy died after the pair drugged her with halothane-soaked cloth and sexually assaulted her. Tammy’s parents and sister Lori were asleep upstairs at the time..Karla Homolka served a 12 year prison sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter. She is now free and remarried..Bernardo has also admitted to raping 14 other women..Reid Small is a BC correspondent for the Western Standard.,.rsmall@westernstandardonline.com.Due to a high level of spam content being posted in our comment section below, all comments undergo manual approval by a staff member during regular business hours (Monday - Friday).
