Maxime Bernier will remain leader of the People’s Party of Canada after members endorsed his leadership in a party-wide vote. The results of the leadership review, released Monday by PPC Executive Director Nathan McMillan, showed that 79.1% of participating members supported Bernier’s continued leadership. A total of 5,797 votes were cast, with a voter participation rate of 32.7%.The vote, conducted online between May 20 and June 20 in partnership with Simply Voting, asked members a single question: “Do you support Maxime Bernier remaining as Leader of the People’s Party of Canada?” Only members with active status as of April 28 — the date of the last federal election — were eligible to vote.Bernier, who founded the party in 2018, said he was pleased with the result and reaffirmed his commitment to the PPC’s core policies, including ending mass immigration, fighting “wokism,” pursuing a non-interventionist foreign policy, cutting government spending and taxes, and promoting provincial autonomy.“The results of the last elections were certainly disappointing for all the smaller parties, including the PPC,” Bernier said in a statement. “But the principles and policies that we’ve been defending for seven years… are more relevant than ever. I am motivated to continue to fight with our team so that more Canadians support them.”
