An RCMP officer from Red Deer has been charged with breach of trust and transferring intimate images without consent following an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).The charges stem from an incident on November 23, 2023, when the officer allegedly accessed and transmitted images from a detained person's phone without consent while the individual was receiving treatment at the Red Deer Hospital.ASIRT launched an investigation on November 28, 2023, and determined there were reasonable grounds to believe offences had occurred. The findings were forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS), which concluded that the evidence met the threshold for prosecution.On December 12, Const. Matthew Villeneuve was charged with one count of breach of trust under section 122 of the Criminal Code and one count of distributing intimate images without consent under section 162.1. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on February 26, 2025.“As this matter is now before the courts, no further information will be released,” stated ASIRT, which handles investigations into serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct in Alberta.
