Brooks RCMP have charged an off-duty officer with assault and assault by choking following an internal investigation that began on November 20.Cpl. Michael Hagel, 40, a nine-year member of the RCMP, was released on a release order after a hearing.He will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Brooks on January 7. He is currently suspended from duty with pay.The Alberta RCMP said it cannot provide further details as the matter is now before the courts.
