BREAKING: Central Saanich police officer charged with sexual assault found dead

One of the two Central Saanich police officers charged with sexual assault earlier this week has been found dead.

Matthew Ball is believed to have committed suicide.

Ball, 43, and Ryan Johnston, 40, have been charged with one count of sexual assault each, with the former also receiving one count of breach of trust.

According to the VPD, Ball and Johnston allegedly had "unlawful sexual contact with an adult woman they met while on duty" in the Central Saanich area between February 1, 2019 and October 31, 2023 and February 6, 2020 and March 8, 2020, respectively.
