Christy Clark not running for Liberal leadership
It has been revealed that Christy Clark will not be running to become the next leader of the Liberal Party.
Sources close to the former BC premier informed the Globe and Mail her decision.
"While we have come a long way, in a short time, there is simply not enough time to mount a successful campaign and for me to effectively connect with Francophone Canadians in their language," Clark wrote in the email to supporters obtained by the outlet. "I have worked hard at improving my French but it's not where it needs to be, today."
Clark's decision comes just days after she was caught lying about having been a member of the Conservative Party.
During an interview with the CBC, Clark was pressed on the fact that she voted for Jean Charest in the last Conservative leadership race, a privilege reserved for members of the party.
When asked how long she had been a member of the Conservative Party, Clark said "never," and claimed she "didn't" vote in the race.
The CBC went on to show footage of Clark in 2022 where Clark told a reporter why she had joined the Conservatives and supported Charest.
Following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's resignation, she had declared herself to be a "lifelong Liberal."
