Dozens of people are dead after a plane veered off the runway and burst into flames in South Korea.

The Jeju Air flight was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members at the time.

According to the Yonhap News Agency, the incident took place shortly after 9:00 a.m. as the plane was landing at Musan International Airport in Muan County, around 300 km southwest of the capital, Seoul. First responders were able to extinguish the fire in under an hour and begin searching through the rubble.

Authorities have confirmed 179 deaths so far, but that number is expected to rise. Two people were rescued from the carnage. The passengers, aside from two Thai nationals, are believed to be Korean.

Footage shared to X shows the Boeing 737-800 travelling down the runway before swerving to the right and hitting a fence, at which point it burst into flames.
