Two people have been injured after a man armed with a knife went on the attack after robbing a restaurant in downtown Vancouver.The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was shot by police and succumbed to his injuries in hospital..According to the Vancouver Police Department, the incident took place shortly after 11:30 a.m. near Robson St. and Hamilton St., and began at Original Joe's on the southwest corner of the intersection.During a press conference, VPD Cst. Tania Visintin explained that employees at the restaurant called police reporting that a man armed with a knife had stolen alcohol. Officers responded immediately, and managed to locate the suspect inside the 7-11 on the northwest corner."The suspect was then shot by police," Visintin continued. "VPD officers along with other first responders attempted life-saving attempts on the suspect, however he was taken to hospital where he later died."She went on to note while the two victims both suffered non-life threatening injuries, only one had been stabbed. The origin of the other's injuries is still unknown. The former suffered an injured hand while the latter had injuries to their face. Visintin added that it was not clear whether the victim had been shot by police. Regardless, as it was an officer-related shooting the Independent Investigations Office has been notified, and they will be looking into the matter further..Footage from a witness shown to the Western Standard and then shared to his X account reveals the aftermath of the incident, with first responders performing CPR on a person on a stretcher.The bystander, Muhammad Uzair, said he usually walks down that section of Robson to get to school, but that the incident caused him to think about finding a different route.Another person in the area pointed out that in just a couple days, the area will be filled with Taylor Swift fans before, during, and after the concerts, set to take place on December 6, 7, and 8 at BC Place, located just a couple blocks away.
