
A passenger jet has crashed in Washington, DC., after colliding with a military helicopter.
The FAA says a Black Hawk helicopter collided with an American Airlines CRJ-700 jet.
The jet crashed in the Potomac River.
The American Airlines flight was en route from Wichita, Kansas.
Rescue efforts are underway.
Sen. Ted Cruz said there are confirmed fatalities.
"I have been fully briefed on the terrible accident which just took place at Reagan National Airport," said US President Donald Trump.
“May God bless their souls. Thank you for the incredible work being done by our first responders. I am monitoring the situation and will provide more details as they arise.”
The maximum number of passengers the aircraft can fit is 76.
A total of 60 passengers and two pilots were on board.
The collision happened at an altitude of only 400 feet.
Officials say the helicopter has been located upside down and almost fully submerged. There are no signs of survivors. Three soldiers were reportedly on board.
All flights out of Ronald Regan International Airport have been grounded.
"Please say a prayer for everyone involved in the mid-air collision near Reagan airport this evening. We're monitoring the situation, but for now let's hope for the best," tweeted Vice President JD Vance.
