BC NDP MLA Bowinn Ma's constituency office in North Vancouver was the site of an explosive attack Friday morning. The office was empty and nobody was injured.Located on Esplanade Ave. in the Lower Lonsdale neighbourhood, the building is also home to a Vancouver Coastal Health Urgent and Primary Care Centre.."All meetings and appointments at my Constituency Office are cancelled for the day due to a security incident that occurred in the early hours of this morning," Ma wrote in a post on X. "Thankfully, nobody was injured, but incidents like this can be quite frightening." .At a press conference, North Vancouver RCMP Media Relations Officer Mansoor Sahak provided more details..He explained that police received reports of a "loud bang" on the 100 block of West 1st St. at 2:45 a.m. Friday morning. When officers arrived on scene, "nothing suspicious" was found. At 4:15 a.m., police received another report of a "loud explosion" near West Esplanade Ave. and Chesterfield Avenue. When officers responded, they discovered "evidence of damage to the front door" of the building "indicative of an explosive device detonation."Following a thorough survey by the RCMP's Explosive Disposal Unit and officers from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services and Integrated Forensic Identification Services, the building was deemed "safe.""This was a jarring incident that undoubtedly startled sleeping residents in the area," Sahak said. "Our investigation is still in its early stages, but police will remain on scene for the time being while CCTV is canvassed from neighbouring businesses and additional evidence is collected. He made it clear that while it appears to be an "isolated" incident, officers are "investigating all possible avenues, and have not ruled out anything at this stage."Anyone with information or footage of the incident has been asked to call the North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote File 25-13204. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crimestoppers..Support for Ma has poured in online.."Every member of the Legislative Assembly of BC must stand with NDP MLA Bowinn Ma & her Constituency Office Staff," BC Conservative leader John Rustad wrote in a post on X. "The idea that someone would set off a device to damage or somehow threaten an MLA's CA office is deeply concerning. No one in BC should feel scared to go in to work."."Bowinn Ma is an incredible community leader, who I am proud to work with every day," Premier David Eby added. "No matter who you are, or what you do for a living, you have a right to safety at work. My thoughts are with [Ma], her staff and the community affected by this incident."
