A retired RCMP officer has been charged with aggravated assault following a 2019 police shooting in Eckville, Alberta, that left a man with a gunshot wound to the face.On April 6, 2019, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate the shooting, which occurred during an RCMP probe into stolen property. The investigation determined that an officer had shot an occupant of a vehicle in the cheek.ASIRT concluded there were reasonable grounds to believe an offence had been committed. The case was then forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service, which agreed the evidence met the threshold for prosecution.OnMonday, 2025, ASIRT Executive Director Michael Ewenson approved a charge of aggravated assault against Geordie Erickson.
