BANFF — President Donald Trump reached an amicable trade deal with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer two days into the G7 Summit in Kananaskis — after six years of negotiations.Prime Minister Mark Carney has been attempting to come to an agreement with the US president, but has yet to secure a deal. Discussions are set to continue.“It’s a fair deal for both. It'll produce a lot of jobs, a lot of income,” Trump told reporters after a meeting between the two leaders. (He initially said a trade deal with the EU, but it was evident he meant the UK.)“The level of enthusiasm is very good, but the relationship that we have is very good, so I just want to congratulate you.”.Starmer said it was “a really important agreement.”“A really important day for both of us,” said Starmer.Trump added Starmer's predecessor, a Conservative government, was unable to reach a deal with the US.“They’ve been talking about this deal for six years.
