A Calgary police officer shot and seriously wounded a suspect Friday morning after an individual in a vehicle may have pointed a gun at them."Around 12:15 a.m., officers were patrolling in the area of Deerfoot and 17 Ave. S.E., when they came across a vehicle in which a passenger pointed what the officers believed to be a handgun at them," Calgary Police Service said in a statement."HAWCS, the Canine Unit and other officers were brought in and a traffic stop was initiated in the 600 block of 25 Ave. S.E. One man fled from the vehicle and a confrontation occurred with officers that resulted in one member discharging their service firearm.".Police said the man was rushed to hospital in life-threatening condition where he was upgraded to life-altering, but stable. Two other occupants were arrested without incident.The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called to investigate..The area is expected to be cordoned off for some time.
