A 46-year-old man has been charged in connection with two separate shootings in Calgary from November 2023, following an extensive investigation by the Calgary Police Service’s Organized Crime & Offender Management Section.

On November 11, 2023, at approximately 4:05 a.m., multiple suspects broke into a residence in the 800 block of Abbotsford Drive N.E.

During the incident, two adults were assaulted, and money and other items were demanded before the suspects fled. As they left, multiple gunshots were fired, striking nearby homes. The two victims suffered significant injuries and were transported to the hospital.

The next day, at approximately 2 a.m., shots were fired between two vehicles near MacEwan Glen Way N.W., striking several residences. No injuries were reported in this incident.

Investigators determined the two shootings were connected, leading to the arrest of Brian Timothy Potts in Edmonton on December 19, 2024. Potts was transported to Calgary and faces several charges, including:

  • Break and enter to commit robbery

  • Unlawful confinement

  • Two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm

  • Two counts of possession of a weapon knowing it is unauthorized

  • Three counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order

Potts is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

“Thanks to the investigative work by the Organized Crime & Offender Management Section, we were able to lay charges in two separate shootings that impacted residential areas and left community members feeling fearful in their neighbourhoods,” said Staff Sgt. Ben Lawson of the Calgary Police Service Organized Crime Operations Unit.

“This shows we will continue to investigate incidents even if several months have passed since they occurred, and we will work closely with our law enforcement partners in other jurisdictions to ensure those who put Calgarians at risk are held accountable for their dangerous actions, even if they have fled the city."
