A federal court filing by the Canadian National Railway (CN) initiates legal action against Parks Canada, for not allowing them to build a berm to prevent flood damage.CN is concerned about flooding near Jasper National Park from the Indian Snake River. This area could be impacted by an avulsion, when a river rapidly redirects due to an increased flow of water. .When the river abandons its original direction, it will flow towards the main line.CN has stated that they have been "repeatedly rebuffed" by Parks Canada — for eight years and counting. The plan proposed by CN to build the berm includes two options: constructing it using outside river materials, or constructing a smaller berm to deepen the river and prevent flooding. .Parks Canada has, so far, not allowed an environmental impact study to be conducted, according to the federal court filing.
