With tensions rising over trade and political friction with US President Donald Trump, Liberal Leader Mark Carney is doubling down on a message of Canadian unity and national pride.

Saturday, his party unveiled the new Canada Strong Pass, aimed at encouraging families and young people to explore and celebrate Canada over the summer.

The pass, available from June to August 2025, will give children and youth under 18 free access to national galleries and museums, as well as free seats on VIA Rail when traveling with parents.

Young adults aged 18 to 24 will also benefit from heavily discounted fares and admissions. The plan builds on an earlier Liberal announcement to make all national parks and historic sites free to the public this summer.

“At a time when our economy is under attack from President Trump, Canadians are stepping up — helping our neighbours, buying local, and celebrating our beautiful country,” Carney said.

“Whether it’s trips to national parks and historic sites, spending the day at a national art gallery or museum, or hiking Canadian trails, my new government will help the next generation discover all Canada has to offer this summer.”

The Liberals also committed to reduced camping fees in national parks, and will partner with provinces and territories to expand discounted access to provincial museums and galleries.

Positioning the initiative as part of a broader push to strengthen Canadian identity, Carney said his government will “stand strong against President Trump’s tariffs, create new jobs, cut taxes for the middle class, and build the fastest growing economy in the G7.”

It was the second straight day Carney did not appear on the campaign trail.
